God has given you PURPOSE and CALLING! What is even more exciting is that He has given you grace through Jesus to fulfill your purpose and calling!
You have an individual calling unique to how He made you and an ultimate and superior calling which all believers are called to.
Your ultimate purpose is to be conformed to the image of Jesus (Rom 8:29) that you might bear fruit (John 15:16) and bring glory to God (1 Cor 10:31), as you depend not on your own ability but on the grace of Jesus (1 Cor 1:26-31). Part of your ultimate calling is the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
The fact that you also have an individual purpose and calling just goes to show you how much you matter to God, how much He thinks of you, and how much He loves you.
How does one discover their personal calling?
Your personal calling is not your identity. Nor is it the meaning of life. Your identity is being a true child of the living God who has redeemed you from darkness. The meaning of life is to find satisfaction in Him as you are made more like Him, which will inevitably make you a light in the darkness.
If you struggle with not having opportunity to pursue what you believe is your personal calling, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matt 6:33

How does one discover their personal calling?
- by focusing on their primary, general calling - becoming like Jesus by spending time with Him,
- by being in community - other people will encourage you, challenge you, and provide opportunities to bring solutions to problems which may stir up a passion for your calling,
- by engaging in corporate prayer and worship - Paul and Barnabas found their exciting and specific calling while in a corporate prayer meeting which you can read about in Acts 13:1-3,
- personal communion with God - Isaiah was called after an encounter with God left him broken and ready to be remade - see Isaiah 6,
- finding what you’re passionate about and asking God how He can use that,
- try things - go on mission trips, share the gospel with strangers, help someone fix their car, take the hurting to coffee, write a worship song, etc.
